Elekem's novel process for manufacturing thin and thicker walled tubes in Victrex Peek Materials.

Following on from 4 years of development Edlan Elekem have now installed new production machinery designed specially to mould thin and thicker walled tube in Victrex Peek and similarly processed materials.

The process at present provides tubes with outside diameters ranging through 36 to 360mm with wall thicknesses 3 to 25mm and supplied in variable lengths of 50 to 500mm dependent on diameter.

The manuafacturing method produces tubes with inherebtly low stress and tests have shown the un-reinforced tubes to have similar properties to injection moulded or extruded tube.

As well as un-reinforced Victrex Peek, the process can accomodate the usual glass, carbon fibre and carbon fibre/PTFE/Graphite systems. Custom filler reinforcements may also be incorporated top meet specific applications.

The tubes can subsequently be machined into seals and back-up rings for industry applications where performance criteria include high temperature, wear, abrasion and chemical resistance (such as oil exploration and production). Other applications currently envisaged are machined valve seats and CMP wear rings on semi-conductor process equipment.

Note: Unfilled PPS tubes are also available in similar diameters/ wall thickness and lengths.
